I push myself so hard on a regular basis. Can you relate to that?
I love making and selling beautiful things but as many of you know, it's really not all I do. I often say, I have a full-time job "on the side". I work so hard at my craft because that is where my heart is. It really is. I've always been a very creative person and one thing I love about that is that I have a pretty easy time finding beauty (and humor) in many things.
The weather here now in North Florida is so incredibly delightful. It's cool and sunny almost every day. Recently, I completely stole away one fine Saturday when my original plan was to work on making jewelry all day. My to-do list definitely did NOT have "walking on the beach" on it. But I just couldn't resist. The sun was high and bright, and the temperature was absolutely perfect. I went to our beach, never ever a disappointment. Searching for beach treasure is always a bit of a thrill for me. Shells, beach glass and tumbled up sediment brought forth from the depths of the ocean floor are among the many things I'm always excited to find. This whole process makes me so grateful. I'm grateful for where I live, grateful for my ability and willingness to get up and go stroll along the edge of our continent whenever it suites me and grateful to be alive and well here on the planet, enjoying my time as much as I possibly can.
Taking time like this is rare for me. But honestly, it's part of an important recipe. If I were to completely ignore these urges to skip out and go play every now and then, I'm afraid I would quickly become burned out and simply not want to do, what I truly love to do: make things. Seeing beautiful things makes me want to make beautiful things.
If you are a fellow creative, I urge you to do the same. Take a rest sometime soon. Upon return you'll likely feel refreshed and ready to get to back to your craft. And that's when you do your important part and once again start filling up the world with more beauty and grace.
